Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar

Tamaya and Marshall go to Woodridge Academy, an exclusive private school in Heath Cliff, Pennsylvania. They have always walked to school together and one day they take a short-cut home from school through the woods to avoid Chad, the school bully. When Chad catches up to them, Tamaya flings some oddly fuzzy mud at him.

What the kids don't know is that the mud is composed of a microscopic life form used to produce inexpensive biofuel. In this fast-paced, scary book, Louis Sachar delves into the timely environmental issues of highly contagious disease; and science's ability to control life.

This book would be great for your fourth grade and up reader, especially if they are curious about science. And make sure the Newbery award winning Holes is on their reading bucket list as well!

Louis Sachar fun fact: he never tells anyone about the next book he is working on, not even his family. Visit his website to see more FAQs from kids.
